Description
Gasherbrum I, also known as Hidden Peak, stands at 8068 meters (26,509 feet) and is the 11th highest mountain in the world. It is part of the Gasherbrum massif, located in the Karakoram Range on the border between Pakistan and China. The name “Gasherbrum” means “Beautiful Mountain” in Balti, while “Hidden Peak” was coined by British climber Thomas George Montgomerie due to its remoteness and secluded location. Gasherbrum I was first successfully climbed on July 5, 1958, by an American expedition led by Pete Schoening and Andrew Kauffman.
