Gasherbrum II, standing tall at 8035 meters (26,362 feet), is the 13th highest mountain in the world. Located in the Karakoram Range on the border between Pakistan and China, it is part of the Gasherbrum massif. The name “Gasherbrum” comes from the Balti words “rgasha” (beautiful) and “brum” (mountain), hence “Beautiful Mountain.” Gasherbrum II was first successfully climbed on July 7, 1956, by an Austrian expedition led by Fritz Moravec, Josef Larch, and Hans Willenpart.
